Who Says?!?

Who says "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"? Because this old dog is doing back flips!

Ok- I don't know what that's about, but I have added some new things to my life.

The first is oatmeal. I have never liked oatmeal. It looks disgusting- gruel-like in fact. Goopy and gloppy. And...wonderful? I love oatmeal! I satrted to make it for true because the weather's getting colder and I thought it would be a good idea. So then I thought maybe I shoud try it since it had been quite a while since I last had it. So I did. And now I want oatmeal every morning for breakfast! I will admit that I do put a lot of butter and brown sugar on it, but it's oats- and that's healthy, right?!

My other new thing is soup. I have never really been a fan of soup. Well, healthy soup anyways. I've always been able to devour creamy, cheesy, potato-y soups. But never crazy for the veggie ones. But I have found a new appreciation for these over the last couple of weeks. I made some minnestrone soup that was pretty good. Especially with a cheese toastie or some crusty bread! (This bread is made by monks!) And how nice is it that I can freeze a bunch for later and have a bunch for an easy lunch or supper? It also reminds me of Mimi- she used to always have a big pot of vegetable soup on the stove waiting for us whevnever we would drive up!
Here's true enjoying his cheese toastie!

So my other new thing is actually yet to be discovered. You see I had really geared myself up to try a fig. Yes, I know it is supposedly the fruit of the gods or something like that, but I personally think the inside looks like larvae. And who wants to eat larvae? Not me. It's kind of like when I used to think cadbury creme eggs were actually eggs. Who wants a raw egg covered in chocolate? Anna. Enough said. Anyways, I went out and picked up a bunch of figs off the sidewalk harvested some figs from a neighborhood tree. I was a little curious because they felt kind of light. And sure enough when I cut into them I realized they were fakes! I was pretty bummed, but glad I didn't have to eat any larvae!

Aren't these so pretty? Very tempting!

So anyways, I am always interested in finding new ways to expand my horizons. And this month it was through lowly oatmeal! Who'd have thought! I'll leave you with some cute pics of True!

He has a new little hide-away behind this chair! I'll see him reading a book or playing with a toy back there in the corner! So cute! And must be his father's child if he likes to hideaway and read!

And I just love this picture! Time for bed! Which is where I'm off to! xo

I've discovered i like a lot of foods I didn't like when I was little. Except salads - still thin k they taste like grass! What a cutie little True is! That last pic of him and Alan is great. Cora loves to read too. She does lots of stuff earlier than Olivia - I think from watching her big sis!

So, were they a variation of figs without middles? Or just not ripe yet? Don't know much about figs!

We love to have our oatmeal with peanut butter, brown sugar, cinnamon & raisins (cooked with the oats). It's like oatmeal cookie dough without the flour and eggs. We call it "Love'n Oatmeal", cause it doesn't taste right unless you put the love in it ;)

I'm always discovering the new things I like, and while I admit figs look disgusting, definitely like little worms, they are really nice, never ate them till I moved here. Still not up for the oats, just can't do it. maybe I'll try "C"'s version mmmm. . . .
